21 Jun 5 Tips to Maintain Excellent Oral Health
While you must visit your dentist every six months to a year, you need a good daily routine to keep your pearly whites in good shape. Here are 5 tips that can help you maintain excellent oral health.
Update your dental equipment
If your current toothbrush has been with you a long time, it’s time for a new one. You should replace your toothbrush every three months, even when there’s no visible wear.
You may consider buying several toothbrushes at once, so that you save on costs and have spares, as and when needed.
Beware the plaque
It is important to use the right brushing technique. Hold your brush such that the bristles are at a 45-degree angle to your gum line, and use short, circular motions to scrub away food particles and plaque. Each tooth surface should get about 15 passes. Regular flossing is also important to clear plaque.
All carbohydrates are converted to sugar during digestion. However, when this occurs throughout the body, it doesn’t usually present a heavy acidic load in your mouth. In case of refined sugars, however, the acids start forming from the moment those foods enter your mouth. Cut back on sugary foods and drinks — which bring additional acids of their own — to reduce your risk of cavities.
Establish the routine
Establish a dental routine. Spend two minutes of brushing, twice a day, along with a daily flossing for cleaning between teeth.
Follow the schedule
You may have a hectic lifestyle but without regular dentist visits, plaque and tartar may accumulate and allow gum disease establish itself, along with other dental problems that may go unnoticed. Don’t cancel dental appointments. Remember that your sense of oral well-being depends on your oral care routine and your regular dentist visits.
